Newton Township borders Darke County on the west. It is crossed by both
the Stillwater River and Panther Creek. The township contains 42 sections.
The Quakers and Brethren were among the earliest settlers of Newton Township.
Michael Williams and family from North Carolina settled in section 19 sometime
between 1797 and 1800. Marmaduke Coate, age 68 of South Carolina and his
extended family settled in section 32 in 1805.
The township is crossed by numerous roadways, the oldest being the Newton-Covington
Pike (Rt. 48). Pleasant Hill is the only village located within the township.
