Miami County Barn Survey Project

"Documenting barns in the Miami County for present and future generations"

4080 St. Rt. 48
West Milton, Ohio 45383
(937) 698-0057

The Miami County Barn Survey Project is an effort to document barns in Miami County for present and future generations.  The goal is to photograph and record background information for every barn in Miami County.

The completed survey sheets and photographs will become part of the Troy Historical Society's permanent collection, and will be made available for use by the public.  The Historical Society collection is housed at the Local History Library, a branch of the Troy Miami County Public Library, located at 100 West Main Street in Troy.

The survey information will serve as a valuable resource for present and future researchers interested in barns located throughout the county.  The Miami County Barn Survey Project DOES NOT list the county barns on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Miami County Barn Survey Project is currently working and communicating with the following organizations and governmental agencies to get the word out about the survey:

  • Friends of Ohio Barns
  • The Local History Library
  • Miami County Bicentennial Committee
  • The Miami County Council of Township Trustees
  • Miami County Farm Bureau
  • The Troy Historical Society

The barn survey work is being done by volunteers from all over Miami County.  Team members are needed in all townships of the county to complete the project.  Smaller groups or Mini Teams of 3 people are formed in each township.  They schedule their own times to complete barn surveys.  You can organize your own mini team and survey with your friends or you can provide your own picture and survey plus any historical information you may have.
