William Snyder  Veteran 147th O. V. I.

One more veteran of the Civil War joined the great army of the beyond when William Snyder died at 6:30 at his home, 211 Third street, after an illness of four months.  He had been failing in health for over six years due to the shock of having passed through the terrible ordeal of the flood of 1913.

 Mr. Snyder was 73 years of age, having been born on April 26, 1846, in Miami county, four miles east of Piqua, moving to this city 15 years ago.  During the Civil war he served as a member of Company E, 147 O. V. I., passing through some very hard fighting at the battle of Silver Springs.

 He married Mary Rodenheber on February 14, 1867, celebrating the golden anniversary of their wedding two years ago. 

He is survived by his widow, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Wahmoff of Piqua and Mrs. Elizabeth Ingle of Dayton; four daughters, Mrs. Lillie Paxton of this city, Mrs. Louise Wolf of Dayton, Mrs. Susie Garst of Lucasville, Mrs. Bertha Niswander of Colton, O; two sons, Ward Snyder and Warren Snyder, both of this city.

 Mr. Snyder was an active member of the United Brethren church and a member of Alexander-Mitchell Post, of the G.A.R

A short service will be held from the house on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock after which the funeral services will be held at the Baptist church at Fletcher.  Interment at the Fletcher cemetery.
