In Memoriam

Mary Ella Cable Jones

Mary Ella Cable Jones, youngest daughter of Jonathan H. and Rebecca Cable was born in Miami County, Ohio, Dec. 15, 1860 and feel asleep in Jesus at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maurer, Covington, Ohio, Monday, April 14, 1930, aged 69 years, 3 months and 29 days.   She was united in marriage with Ira Jones who preceded her to the "Home Over There" in 1918.  In her early girlhood days she united with the Church of the Brethren and has continued throughout the intervening years as one of the most loyal and active members of the church she so much loved and in which it was always one of her greatest joys to serve Him whom she had crowned as the Lord and Master of her life.  Mrs. Jones was noted for her fine Christian Character and her kindly attitude as she so nobly lived her life of unselfishness and helpfulness in our midst.  She had much skill and marked sympathetic manner in dealing with the sick and those in distress. Her services were, therefore, much sought and greatly appreciated by those who were passing through trying experiences of life.  In later years she cared faithfully and tenderly for an invalid sister until this sister was called from her life of suffering here to her home beyond.  In earlier years she lived for a long period she lived in Michigan caring for the home of a brother (paragraph trails off into darkness) .  One of her greatest joys of her life was the rearing of her nephew, Prof. Arthur Cable. He is now both an minister of the gospel and a college professor and it is a pleasure to hear him express sincere appreciation of what his noble aunt's fine Christian training and inspiring example have meant to him in the development of his life and character. As a tribute to her, he has written a book entitled, "The Golden Pen" and published it in her honor.  She is survived by the following four brothers and one sister: Jerry M. Cable, Custer, Michigan; Wm. H. Cable, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Roland S. Cable, Dayton, Ohio; Arthur E. Cable, Celina, Ohio; Mrs. Tracey Maurer, Covington, Ohio. She is also survived by the following stepsons: Thomas Jones, Shelby, Montana; Paul Jones, Toronto, Canada; Maurice Jones, Los Angeles, Cal. Besides nephews and nieces there are many other relatives and friends who unite in mourning her loss.  For the last three years, Mrs. Jones has resided in the home of her brother-in-law and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maurer, Covington, Ohio.  In her passing, the community loses one who was highly and justly, esteemed for the influence of her noble life, the church loses one of her more devoted active members and her family loses one whose memory serves as a benefaction and an inspiration.
