Boy Is Victim of Crash; Throat Is Cut with Glass

Youth Killed in Head-On Collision Wednesday Night

Parked Car Is Responsible For Accident on Covington-Dayton Pike Which Results In Lad's Death

Conrad Shefbuch, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shefbuch, R. R. 2(?), Covington, Ohio, was killed shortly before 7 o'clock Wednesday night when the Ford Sedan in which he was riding crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Coupe, driven by Russell McClurg, 21, of Dayton.

The accident occurred when Ned Watson, accompanied by the Shefbuch lad, who were on their way to the basketball game at Pleasant Hill attempted  to pass a parked Studebaker and struck the Chevrolet sideways. Mr. McClurg was thrown clear of the wrecked cars and was scratched and bruised  by the force of the fall. The Shefbuch lad was almost instantly killed, his throat being slashed by the broken glass. Ned Watson, driver of the Ford  Sedan, suffered cuts and bruises but was not seriously injured.

Both boys were taken immediately to the Covington Hospital, where the victim died on the operating table.

McClurg was picked up by a passing motorist and was taken to a local doctor, then proceeding to Greenville, ignorant of the death of the Shefbuch boy. He returned immediately after his wounds were dressed and made a report to Deputy Sheriff Chas. Green who investigated the accident.

McClurg said that he was an employee of the McCall Pub. Co.(?) at Dayton and proceeding to(?) Greenville to spend Thanksgiving with his parents.

He stated that he was driving about 35 miles an hour up the hill and had just passed a parked Studebaker. Watson(?) had turned out also to pass the Studebaker, and whether he was blinded by oncoming lights is unknown. McClurg seeing that he would be struck head-on attempted to turn his machine and pass(?) on the other side in order to avoid the accident. He failed to get over on the left side of the road in time, however and the Ford struck him sidewise.

Green after hearing the story absolved McClurg from all his blame and allowed him to return home. Both machines were badly damaged, the Chevrolet being almost a total wreck The victim is survived by one brother, and three sisters, besides his parents.

Funeral arrangements for Conrad Shefbuch have been made for Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the home, Rev. Stroup, officiating. Burial in
Highland cemetery. **some words were very hard to see because of the way that it was copied. They are marked w/ (?)
