CARL PETERS
Carl Peters, 66, 107 Crawford street, died early last Thursday morning at Stouder hospital (missing information) had suffered the week before.
Carl Paul Peters was born in Husum, a town on the shores of the North Sea in Germany. It was there he received his education in languages and later furthered his knowledge as a linguist in Hamburg. During his life he attained a speaking ability and familiarity with 10 different tongues and he employed himself as a foreign translator in various capacities in this vicinity during his later years.
Came to the U.S. In 1893
In 1893 the decedent moved to this country and lived in Greenville and Troy most of his life in America. He had resided here for the last 15 years. While in Greenville he engaged in various business ventures including sawmills and lumber industry, commission house manager and real estate dealer. For a short time he was a manager of a commission house in London, England.
In lodge work Mr. Peters was active in Masonic affairs and was a 32nd degree Mason at the time of his death. He was a member of the Knights Templar and Scottish Rite orders and was commander of the local commanddery in 1927, and was also a charter member of the Kiwanis club here.
Mr. Peters was interested in short wave radio and his ability in languages enabled him to profit from broadcasts by foreign stations. Because of this he was made listening post observer for Ohio by a national radio magazine, to which he reported reception of short wave programs in this section of the country.
From his residence in Greenville the decedent had retained a membership on the Presbyterian church of that place. He is survived by his widow, who is Miami county court reporter, and a brother, Dr. Ernst Peters, and sister, Miss Elizabeth Peters of Hamburg, Germany.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Irvin funeral home and burial was made in Greenville cemetery. Rev. I. L. Dungan of the local Presbyterian church was in charge
