Samuel Strong

Samuel Strong was born on August 23rd, 1853, in Milfin County, Pennsylvania, and passed away at his home in Newton Township , Miami County, Ohio, on November 24th, 1937, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 1 day.

When Samuel was a child of six years his parents, Jacob and Lucy Ann Strong, decided to leave the rolling hills of their native state and seek their fortune among the pioneers of the Ohio prairies. With their meager belongings packed in a covered wagon they made their journey westward and settled in Miami County near Alcony, moving later to Concord township where the family was reared and the homestead established.

On August 18, 1877 he was united in marriage to Marietta Shoemaker and to this union three children were given. The wife and two children have preceded him in death. Mrs. Pearl Schellhouse in 1922; Mother Strong in 1929, while Clarence died at the age of four in 1886.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clara Marlin; one sister Jemima Strong, both of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren, Glen, Ray and Jean Schellhouse, Gertrude Tobias and Maribell Wallace; one great grandchild Larry Wallace, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Strong, one of Miami county's pioneers, made many lifelong friends, and save for the six years of childhood, lived his entire life in Miami county, the past 60 years on the two farms in Newton township.

He was a member of the First Brethren Church of Pleasant Hill with which he united about 25 years ago, during the pastorate of Rev. Watson.
