For more than three score years and ten, in her quiet unassuming manner, Olive
Miles Pleasant went about doing good not only in her own household and among
relatives for whom the ties of love and friendship were most dear, but to all
whom she met, went out a spirit of encouragement and sympathy. Weeping with
those who weep and rejoicing with those who rejoice. On October 9th, 1865,
Olive, the daughter of Samuel P. and Sarah Miles was born on the Miles
homestead, just north of Laura, on or near this place she spent most of her
life.
She was married to George W. Pleasant in 1892. One son, Willis blessed this home
by his love for and loyalty to his parents. This joy was too soon turned to
sorrow, when in May 1929, his work here on earth was finished. Believing in
redemption, accepting Christ as her Savior, she was with her husband united with
the Church in 1908, being a member of the Ludlow Fall Friends. One of seven
children she is the third to be called to give an account of her stewardship,
she is survived by her husband, a daughter-in-law Mildred Pleasant, Joan, a
grand-daughter, three brothers Davis, Roger and Clark Miles, one sister
Mrs.Clara Hall all of Laura. After months of suffering, how welcome the summons
to come for the reward that awaits those who have done what they could to create
joy and happiness.
"Be useful where thou livest, that they may
Both want and wish thy pleasing presence still.
Find out men's wants and will,
and meet them there. All wordly joys go less
To one the joy of doing kindness."
The family wish to express their heart felt THANKS to all who have so kindly
assisted them in this their hour of sorrow. And especially to the neighbors who
were so attentive to their loved one during her long suffering.
