Christian G. Kraus was born in Wuertemburg, Germany on August 11, 1853; he died in Piqua Memorial Hospital late Friday afternoon, Sept. 20, 1935. He had reached the ripe old age of 82 years, one month and 9 days.  On Nov. 23, 1879 he was united in marriage with Katherine Shaffner. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Carrie Sifford, Mrs. Rose Mulvahill, and Samuel A. Kraus. These children, the wife, six grandchildren and a half brother, Samuel Hoeflich constitute the immediate family who are bereaved. Along with these are a great many other relatives and friends who are made sad by his departure. The deceased was baptized in infancy and in early manhood became a confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran church. He was a member of the Red Men and Pocahontas orders. He was also a member of the Covington Fire Department, having been a member since its organization.'  Mr. Kraus was brought to this country by his parents in the first year of his life. Their voyage was a very rough one, almost being shipwrecked among the icebergs, but they finally reached land in New York. The deceased had lived in Covington since 1864. For many years he worked as a stone mason.  While he had been in declining health for many years, he continued to be active around the house up until about one week before his death. After being confined in the bed he rapidly grew worse. He was taken to the hospital for special medical attention but death ended his earthly sufferings on last Friday afternoon late. A loving father and a kind neighbor has passed away from this earth. His presence will be greatly missed in the home and from the streets. It was said of Abraham of old, that he gave up the ghost and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
