Mrs Sarah I Gearhart, 65, widow of J E Gearhart, died at her home, 708 East Main street, Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock following an illness of two weeks. Mrs Gearhart was stricken with a paralytic stroke the first of July, and died without regaining consciousness. During the last several days she had received no nourishment. Sarah I Gearhart was the daughter of the late John and Mary Eidemiller Smith, and was born near Ginghamsburg, March 9, 1866. Forty years ago she was married to J E Gearhart, who preceded her in death about 10 years ago. For the last 20 years she had resided in Troy and prior to that time had lived on a farm near Cove Springs east of Troy. The decedent was a faithful member of the St John's Evangelical church and of the Rebekah lodge. The latter organization will hold its ritualistic memorial service at the late residence, Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Four brothers and two sisters are the relatives who survive. They are Estey S Smith, of this city, Mrs Lille Ruby and John H Smith of New Carlisle, Mrs Mary J Keller of Tippecanoe City, Peter E Smith of Vandalia, and D A Smith of Afton, Okla. Funeral services will be held at the late residence, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev J J Kalkbrenner, pastor of the St John's church, in charge, assisted by Rev O P Furnas, of West Milton. Burial will be made in the Casstown cemetery.
