An Old Pioneer Gone
William Swailes, an old citizen of this county and for many years a resident of Troy, died very suddenly Christmas morning, at his home on May Street. The deceased was born in Kentucky, Nov. 15, 1808, and at the age of four years, he came with his parents to Ohio, settling near Cincinnati. A few years afterwards, he came to Miami County and settled down to the life of a frontier farmer, in which he was very successful. Only six months ago, he followed his wife to the grave after a married life of 55 years. Of this union eleven children were born, of whom only five now survive. The funeral took place from the home, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Denison officiating, and the remains were buried in the family lot in the Thomas Cemetery beside his beloved wife.
