Rebecca Detrick
Rebecca Elizabeth Detrick was born at Kendallville, Ind. April 18, 1914 and departed this life in the Sacred Heart Hospital at Garrett Ind. Nov. 3, 1934 at the age of 20 years, 6 months and 15 days. She united with the Church of the Brethren at the age of nine, during her father's pastorate at Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Bradford High School with the class of 1931. The following year she spent in Juanita Collage at Huntingdon, Pa. taking a special music course. Thru circumstances over which she had no control she was forced to give up her chosen course of study and with the help of a personal friend she was privileged to continue her school work taking the Teacher Training Course at Manchester College, North Manchester Ind. graduating with the class of 1934. Her much cherished dream was realized when she was employed by the Board of Education of Pulaski Township, Williams County, Ohio. She spent the summer planning her work, but was permitted to teach only two weeks. After seven weeks of intense suffering her frail little body could no longer hold her spirit, and she quietly and peacefully slipped away, leaving to mourn her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Detrick, two brothers, C. W. Detrick of Cleveland, Ohio, William Robert at home, and Paul Berkebile of Bradford, Ohio to whom she was betrothed, many relatives and a host of friends in each community in which she was privileged to live.
