William A. Bashore
William A. Bashore was the son of John and Mary (Hittle) Bashore and was born near Pleasant Hill, Newton township April 7, 1857. He was one of a family of ten children, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Born and reared on the farm he loved, he loved the out-of doors life, and became a tiller of the soil that he might be nearer nature's God. He loved his work and for about forty-five years gave his best to the tasks of his farm located on the Range Line Road about two miles north of Pleasant Hill. On February 23, 1879 he was married to Miss Hettie Long also of Newton township. To this union four children were born - Anna, Simon, Alva, and Noah. Nineteen years ago Noah the youngest son preceded mother and father to the realm beyond the grave. After fifty-two years of happy wedded life mother went to join the younger son beyond the years of time. Golden wedding days, what a flood of memories they must have recalled, and what a halo of blessing and contentment amidst the wrecks of modern marriages. For many years the deceased had been a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. Life in the church as well as on the farm was interesting and a place of whole-hearted service as long as health permitted. He lived and loved unstintingly. Since mothers Bashore's death on November 4, 1931, father made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Anna Trost, just east of Pleasant Hill. for about eight years his health has been failing and especially since the going of mother, necessitated much attention and care. In the home of his daughter he was given loving care and ministrations such as only a faithful and devoted daughter knows how to bestow. The silver cord is loosed the golden bown is broken, the spirit returneth to God. Life ceased and he went to his reward on February 12, 1935. Seventy and seven years, ten months and five days he journeyed here. Death summoned him and he is gone. He is survived by three brothers, Samuel and Wessley of Bradford and Jesse of Logansport, Indiana; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Wackler of Pleasant Hill, Mrs. Eliza Brant of Covington and Mrs. Emma Jenkins of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Mrs. Fannie Stade of Covington; three children Mrs. Anna Trost, at whose home he died, Simon of Piqua, and Alva of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides there are many relatives and friends who share in the sorrow of the bereft family, The following poem was composed by the daughter and dedicated to the memory of father; - - - ( clipping is cut off )
