Funeral Services Are Held For
John Nill
Funeral services for John Nill, 65, pioneer resident of McFarland since 1911, were held from the Church of the Brethren, Delano, Calif. Wednesday afternoon. Interment was in the family plot in Inglewood Cemetery, beside his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Nill, formerly well known residents of this area. Mr. Nill passed away Monday August 16, at the Delano Hospital, where he was taken following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Saturday morning at his country home south of McFarland. Brothers of the deceased, Noah Nill and Joseph Nill of Frederick, Oklahoma, who were visiting in their native state, Ohio, when they heard of the death of Mr. Nill arrived here for the services. Children, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson of Noah Nill, arrived here Sunday from their home at Davidson, Oklahoma, and are staying as guests of Mrs. Martha Nill and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nill. They include Roy Nill, and his two sisters, Mrs. Rosie Surface, and Mrs. Elsie Pennington, also Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Fillmore, and their small son Ronald. Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Nill now both deceased, with their son John, and their son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nill and son, Lawrence, came to McFarland in 1911. They bought land one mile west of this city, which is now owned by Clayton Elston and J.C. Moomaw. Later they sold their interests going east for a few years. Following the death of Mr. Nill's parents, he went to Ohio, where he was married to Miss Martha Gross, who is his present wife, and who was at his side constantly following his illness. Following their marriage they came to California and purchased their present home two miles south of this city. They are known thru-out the county for the choice berries they raise. Mr. Nill was stricken with the paralytic stroke on the nineteenth wedding anniversary of he and his wife. Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers, Jacob of this city, Noah and Joseph of Oklahoma, two nephews, Harold and Lawrence of this city also six nieces and nephews in.....
