SQUIRE BLAND SCUDDER
Died This Morning at Eight O'clock at the Memorial Hospital
A GENTLEMAN of Strong Character Well Liked By All Has Passed
To The Great Beyond.
The death of Bland Scudder, Justice of the Peace, occurred this morning at eight o'clock at the Memorial hospital after a three weeks illness. His death was caused from an injury to his spine received a number of years ago. From the first his injury was considered serious but it was not thought that there was any immediate danger. He took a turn for the worse last Friday morning when he was removed to the hospital. His son Clarence who was with Company C. at Camp Perry, was summoned and reached here Sunday morning in time to see his father before he lapsed into unconsciousness. Yesterday morning Squire Scudder sat up in bed for a short time. His family were at his bedside all day Sunday and until the end came. From five o'clock yesterday afternoon he was unconscious and remained in that condition until he expired. He said from the first that he would not get well and told his son Clarence that he was not afraid to die. The deceased leaves besides his wife, three children: Mrs. F. C. Fuller, Clarence Scudder and Ray S. Scudder, also his mother, Mrs. Eliza Scudder and brother Augustus Scudder, who made their home with Squire Scudder. The deceased was born in Greenville. He was forty-nine years old the fifteenth of last July. He was a faithful member of the Grace M. E. church. For eight years he was Justice of the Peace. He also represented the Standard Accident and Insurance Co. Squire Scudder was a man that had the respect of the entire community. He was kind hearted and always ready to help any one in trouble whom he was brought in contact with in his business relations. He had a great many friends here who esteemed him highly. Because of his affliction every one was ready to extend their sympathy. He had an indomitable will power and many would have given up under his affliction because of his difficulty in walking, but Squire Scudder never faltered but put his shoulder to the wheel to take his part in the busy whirl of life. His memory will ever be revered.
