Sarah C. Parke
Sarah C. Roadarmer was born near Harrisburg, Pa., Feb. 13, 1832, and died of heart failure at Memphis, Tenn., July 8, 1897, aged 65 years. On Dec. 13, 1849 she was united in marriage with Jos. R. Parke, of Sidney, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Parke came to reside in Troy in 1863 and have resided here ever since. In the 34 years of their residence they have won many friends both in the church and outside of it. Nine children, four girls and five boys were born to them. Five of their children, two girls and three boys have preceded their mother to the other shore. After spending long years with the four on this side, she has gone to be with her loved ones and her Savior in the bright beyond. For may years she was not strong and last November she with her husband went to Tennessee, to visit their two sons, expecting after a rest and visit to return. Her companion in life for these long years survives her as do also her two daughters, Mrs. Laura Meredith, of this city and Mrs. Lizzie Montgomery, of Anderson, Ind., and two sons Frank and Samuel, of Memphis, Tenn. Last week she expressed a desire to return to her daughters in Troy, but in His wisdom the Savior called her home. The testimony of neighbors and acquaintance is that "she was a good Christian woman." No higher tribute can be paid to anyone. For many long years she served her Master in her own characteristic way. For nearly a quarter of a century was a worker in the Troy Christian Church with her husband.
"One by one our friends pass o'er
To the bright and peaceful shore.
And they join in the glad surprise
The glorious anthem of the skies."
The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Saturday afternoon and her remains laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
