Ellen W. Bradley
At the home of her son, Mr. James Bradley, near Fletcher, Ohio. July 7, 1897, Mrs. Ellen W. Bradley passed to her reward beyond. Born Dec. 3, 1815, she was aged eighty-one years, seven months and four days.
Until the year 1856, she lived at Goshen, Conn., where she was born and where she married James Bradley more than sixty years ago. In the year 1859, with her husband and five children, she moved to Troy, Ohio, and after a residence there of twelve years, located in Fletcher, where she lived until her death.
Twenty-eight years ago one of her sons departed this life followed by her husband in 1885. She sorrows for them no more now that she too has answered to the summons of her Lord.
Four children remain to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. But while they miss her and experience this sense of loss it is theirs to rejoice in the gain to the loved one who has gone. She lived for her Lord as well as in devotion to her family, and shares today the pleasures at His right hand the fullness of joy in His presence. "And while the soul retains its power
To think upon each faded year.
In every bright or shadowed hour
The heart shall hold thee mother dear.
She lead me first to God;
Her words and prayers were my young spirits dew,
For when she used to leave the fireside every eve,
I knew it was to prayer that she withdrew.
How often has the thought
Of my mourned mother brought
Peace to my troubled spirit, and new power.
The tempter to repel!
Mother, thou knowest well
That thou hast blessed me,
Since my natal hour."
