Mr. Samuel Schultz

Samuel J. Schultz was born July 31st, 1871 in Butler Township, Montgomery County near Dayton, O. His Christian parents laid him in the arms of Jesus by the solemn rite of Holy Baptism on May 9th, 1772 administered by Pastor C. A. Fritze at Dayton, O. After thorough and proper instruction and indoctrination to God's Word he was received into Communicant membership in St. John's Evan. Lutheran Church at Covington, Ohio, by the rite of Confirmation on the 3rd day of May 1885 by Pastor E. H. D. Winterhoff.

He was ever loyal and faithful to this, his confession and consistently served his Lord and Master in his church. He had served on the church council at different times and was a deacon at the time of his death.  On the 7th day of June 1894, he entered holy wedlock with Miss Louise E. Nickel at Troy, Ohio, solemnized by the Reverend H. Dieterlic. This happy union was blessed with two daughters and one son, all living.  Mr. Schultz spent the greater part of his life in and around Pleasant Hill. He was always ready and willing to serve his fellowmen in time of need. Feeling a weakness due to some affliction he sought the advice of his physician, after faithful endeavor to obtain relief and due to a relapse it was advisable to take him to the Miami Valley Hospital at Dayton where the best medical aid nurses were secured. The members of his family, especially his devoted and loving wife, were ready to sacrifice everything for his comfort and if possible for his recovery, but with all their earnest endeavors and the use of the best medical skill to give comfort and relief, it, however, was beyond human power. He bore his intense suffering and affliction with Christian fortitude. As a consistent Christian he sought the service of his pastor to administer the Lord's Supper in preparation for his final departure. He entered into life on last Wednesday (May 3) evening at about 6 o'clock at the age of 56 years, 9 months and 2 days, leaving to mourn their loss, his devoted and faithful wife, daughters, Mrs. Irvin Whitman, Mrs. Harold Rudy and son John G., two brothers, George H. Schultz of Piqua, O., and David F. Schultz of Baltimore, Ind. and one sister, Mrs. Oliver Burkholder of Brackettville, Texas, four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. In peace he awaits the blessed resurrection morn.  The family wishes to thank the friends and neighbors for their kind assistance and numerous floral designs.

***NOTE***
The date of his baptism is typed here as it was in the Obituary, although it was obviously a typographical error; 1772 should read 1872.
