Cora Luella Smith, only child of John and Florence Smith was born at the home of her parents in Newton Township on March 20, 1885; died just after the noon hour on Thursday March 28, 1929, making the days of her earthly life, 44 years and eight days. On the 14th day of April, 1909 she was united in marriage with Charles Holfinger. To this marriage union one son was born. Of the immediate family there remain, her father and mother with whom she lived, the husband and the son Harold. Along with these there are may near and more distant relatives, and a wide circle of friends who are deeply grieved over the death of this dear one who had fast reached the prime of her life of usefulness on this earth. She was baptized in infancy. After instruction in the Christian faith she became a confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran congregation on May 22, 1904 under the pastorate of Rev. Mittler, this membership she retained in good standing until her death. The deceased was a graduate of the Newton township graded schools, having finished in May 1900. Mrs. Holfinger will be remembered as a strong, robust looking woman, and she enjoyed good health up until about two years ago when she began to fail in health. In November of the last year she was taken to the Piqua hospital and submitted to a thorough examination by surgeons, who pronounced her disease a cancer. She was home from the hospital for 13 weeks, where she had the attention of a physician and careful nursing. At times her suffering was intense, but she bore it patiently. Her wasted bodily appearance indicated plainly her illness and suffering. She very peaceably entered into the sleep of death.
