Major Alphonso Pettit died at the Dayton National Home, Monday. Mr. Pettit was a native of Troy, where he spent his early years. He volunteered at the outbreak of the rebellion and served until the close of the war. The hardships of the service broke his health and he was an invalid for many years, putting him to the necessity of taking advantage of the charity of the government so amply extended to the old soldiers. The friends of his youth remember him as a bright and winning boy, who was a favorite with all who knew him intimately.
