VANDALIA POSTMASTER SUCCUMBS TO ILLNESS
FATHER OF TIPP CITY MAN PASSES
SERVICES ARE PENDING
H. E. Smith, 50, Vandalia postmaster and father of James D. Smith of Tipp City, died in Vandalia at 10:45 pm Tuesday following an illness of two weeks. He was Ohio state president of the National League of District Postmasters.
Mr. Smith, well-known trap shooter, was born near Vandalia and spent practically his entire life in that vicinity. He was in the insurance business there at one time and was a former member of the city council.
He was affiliated with the United Brethren church in Vandalia, and belonged to the Masonic lodge in Tipp City, the Scottish Rite and Shrine in Dayton, the Troy chapter of the ODES, the Odd Fellows lodge in Vandalia and the Ben Hurl lodge in Tipp City.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. May Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Borchers of Vandalia and Miss Elizabeth Lou at home; the son, James D. Smith; and two grandchildren.
