Cynthia Owens Summers was born Oct 16th in Lewis County Ky. On 16th April, 1846, she was united in marriage in Bracken Co. Ky., to Edward Summers, who endured the hardships and privations of war for more that four years, while she did her duty at home as a true wife and brave mother, burying three of her dear children while her husband was away. She was the mother of eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom but two have passed to the great beyond. The remaining ones are Thomas Summers, who left her side but a week before her death to return to his home in Iowa, and Mrs. Laura Pope with whom she lived until her death. She leaves several grandchildren, two of them are Miss Margaret McKee and Mrs. Lillie McKee Hartman, children of her beloved Mary who died near Christiansburg Jan 21st, 1894.
Mrs. Summers came to this state from Kentucky in 1892. She died on her seventy-sixth birthday, after an illness of but one week but was prepared for the change that awaits us all.
She was a member of the old Baptist Church at Drift Run, Ky. She was always kind and cheerful and had an encouraging word for all. She remarked during her sickness that she did not care to sleep when everything was so bright to her and when with the eye of the faith she could see her husband and children who had gone before. She was sure of a happy reunion in the better land. She was a kind and affectionate grandma, mother and friend and all who knew her will greatly miss her, but we realize that a good and true woman has passed to the reward that awaits the people of God.
Mrs. Summers passed peacefully to rest Oct. 16th, 1900, and was laid to rest in Honey Creek cemetery by Rev. Laird, of Christiansburg M. E. Church.
