Ada Cordelia (Updike) Noel
Ada Cordelia, the only daughter of Gideon and Louisa Updike, was born near Troy, September 1, 1879, and died July 31, 1900. She graduated from the public school in May 1896. She was married to Larkin Noel December 28, 1896, and joined the daughters of Rebecca Lodge No 26 at Piqua in 1899. In 1893, during a revival conducted by Brother A. L. Brokaw, at Raper Chapel near Troy, she with her mother, brother and a number of Sunday School Classmates united with the church and gave her young heart to God in holy consecration. Life then became full of rich promise, and the future looked bright indeed. But the world is full of sorrow, and she laid down the cross to take up the crown. She has gone to meet the little angle boy, Harry, she loved so well.
Not now, but in the coming years,
It may be in the better land,
We'll read the meaning of our tears,
And these, sometime we'll understand.
We'll know why clouds instead of sun
Were over many a cherished plan.
Why song had ceased when scarce began.
Yea, these, up there, we'll understand.
