Mrs. Catharine House Turnpaugh
after an illness of two months, died last night at nine o'clock, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Koontz, at the age of 73 years. Grandma Turnbaugh as she was familiarly known, was born in Miami County, Ohio, Feb. 29, 1826. At the age of twenty-two she was married to George Turnpaugh in Ohio. In 1861 her husband was killed, and in the spring of 1880 she moved Emporia, Kansas where she has since resided.
She leaves three children to mourn her death, Mrs. Mary Koontz; John, a prominent engineer on the Santa Fe; and Frank, who resides in Ohio.
A large circle of friends whom Grandma had gathered around her kindness and her beneficence will mourn her death. She has been a member of the Christian Church for the past forty years, and left this world peacefully assured of the eternal rest which is the reward of such devotion. The funeral services will be held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Koontz, tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. D. L. Hillton, of Strong City. the interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.
