Noah Webster Detrick
"Passing out of the shadows, into the purer light Stepping behind the curtain, getting a clearer sight; Laying aside the burden this weary mortal coil; Done with the world vexations, done with its tears and toil; Tired of earthly plaything; heartsick and ready to sleep, Ready to bid his friends farewell, wondering why they weep; Passing out of the shadow into Eternal Day-- Why do we call it dying? THIS SWEET--GOING AWAY."
Noah Webster Detrick, second son of Simeon and Virginia Detrick, was born August 7, 1850 in Hardy County West Virginia, and departed this life April 15, 1930. On December 12, 1872 he was united in marriage to Margaret Helman and to this union was born 3 sons and five daughters. The mother and four of the children preceded him in death.
He united with the Church of the Brethren shortly after his marriage and was soon called to the office of deacon. He served his church in many ways always willing to do his best in every way; always attentive in its services, a good counselor and careful advisor.
February 8, 1911 he was united in marriage to Mattie A. Mohr, who with his four children; Mrs. Cora Porter, Mrs. Opal Fisher, 2 sons, Homer A. and William C., one sister Mrs. Emma Byrd, 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive.
"We loved him, yes, we loved him
But Angels loved him more,
And they have gently called him
To yonder shining shore;
The golden gates were opened,
A tender voice said, "COME"
And thus he calmly entered
To his eternal home."
