JOSEPH WILLIAM NORRIS

Joseph William Norris, 63, veteran groceryman of this city, died Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock at his residence, 444 South Mulberry street, after an illness of five months from heart trouble.  He was stricken last August and had been in a serious condition virtually the entire time since. A native of Troy, Mr. Norris had been engaged in the grocery business almost his entire life.  He was first associated with his father and later established his own store at the corner of Mulberry and West Streets which he operated for many years. For the last several years his son Robert has been associated in the business which went under the name of the J. W. Norris & Son grocery. Mr. Norris was born in Troy August 10, 1865, the son of Hiram P. and Phoebe A. Norris. He was one of 13 children of whom four survive.  They are Mrs. Jennie Maute of this city, Charles S. Norris and Mrs. Otie Stump of Los Angeles and Mrs. Lida Ehle, Indianapolis.  On November 28, 1888, Mr. Norris married Mary Ellen Curtis in this city and they have always resided here.  Two sons, Carl and Robert, were born to this union and they with their mother survive. For many years Mr. Norris had been a member of the First Christian Church. The funeral arrangements will be announce later.
