JACKSON COMPTON
From the "Miami Helmet", Piqua, OH, Nov. 10, 1887, p. 5
DIED: JACKSON COMPTON.
Jackson Compton was born in Ross Co., O., Nov.
16, 1816, and died Nov. 5, 1887 from the infirmities of age.
He was ill about fourteen days, but breathed his life away
without pain, and as calmly as one who passes into pleasant slumber.
He leaves five children to struggle with the realities of life. Their
names are severally, John N., Wm. O.; Alice; Nettie and Viola. Flora,
the youngest, died about three months ago, and her death fell crushingly upon
her aged father's heart. It has even been suggested that Brother
Compton's sorrow resulting from this bereavement, rapidly hastened his own
departure to "that bourne from which no traveler returns."
The deceased was originally methodist of influence. He
afterwards connected himself with the First Baptist Church of Lima, and was
believed to be in full connection with that body to the day of his death.
He was recognized as an official member of the Baptist Church for many years.
This aged pilgrim said to his son who patiently watched by his bedside,
"It will not last long and I feel prepared to go."
