In Memoriam

ELIZABETH SHAWVER

Elizabeth Shawver, daughter of the late Daniel and Harriet Shawver, was born in Miami County, near Bloomer, O. on April 27, 1867; she died on Sunday morning March 9, 1930 at the home of her sister, Mrs. George Zacharias, north of Covington.  She had reached the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 12 days.

She was the oldest of twelve brothers and sisters and the first one of this number to depart from this earth.  The following brothers and sisters survive:  John of Piqua; Benjamin of Covington;  Mrs. Anna Zacharias, of Covington; Joseph of Piqua; Theodore and Edward of Troy;  Mrs. Maggie Pickanuee of Covington; Henry of Piqua; Mrs. Martha Alexander of Covington, Charles of Detroit, Mich; and Ezra of Dayton.  These along with an unusually large number of nieces and nephews, more distant relatives and a wide circle of friends are saddened over her death.

The deceased was baptized in infancy and at the age of fifteen years became a confirmed member of Frieden's Lutheran congregation, Bloomer.  In 1925 after making her home in Covington, she transferred her membership to St. John's Lutheran Church.  All during her life she remained faithful to her confirmation vow.  She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School class and the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society.

Practically her entire life, except the last six years, was spent in the Bloomer community.  Having remained at home and cared for the mother during the mother's lifetime.  She was never as strong and healthful as her physical appearance would indicate but she was active and performed household duties.  During last summer she suffered a breakdown and while she rallied somewhat and returned to her usual duties, she was in a weakened condition.  Around the holidays she suffered a complete relapse.  She had the attention of her old family physician and a skillful surgeon but they could only render relief.  She was afflicted with a cancerous tumor.

Lizzie Shawver was a quiet unassuming, friendly woman.  She was a Christian woman, she was devoted to her church.  She was a loving sister, a kind neighbor.  She will be greatly missed by all.  "There remaineth, therefore, a rest unto the people of God."
