SPENCER, COL. OLIVER - Died, at Columbia, on Tuesday last, after a
short illness Col. Oliver Spencer, aged 74. Col. Spencer was an active and
valuable officer in the American revolution, an early and highly respected
inhabitant of this state. His remains were interred in the Methodist
burying ground in this place on Thursday attended by a numerous and respectable
concourse of people of both sexes from the townships, of Columbia and
Cincinnati. An appropriate discourse was delivered on the occasion by the
Rev. Joshua L. Wilson.
{A Byographical sketch of the life of Col. Spencer is deferred till
next week, when we expect to receive it from one better qualified than
ourselves, to do justice to his memory--a respectable, and intimate friend of
the deceased.}
