SECRIST, JOHN - Mr. John Secrist died June 29th, 1864, of typhoid fever in the 46th year of his age. He was a native of Virginia, and settled in Ohio some twenty years since. He was a strong and industrious man, and generally esteemed by the community. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. in Troy, in good standing. He became a member of the M. E. Church, under the ministry of Rev. J. Inskip, some fifteen years ago, and of late his interest in religious things was manifestly improving. During his illness he was much engaged in prayer to preparation, and was enabled to calmly commit himself to God's appointment. He was strengthened by the reading of Scriptures and words of loving counsel from his wife. The disease was violent and rapid in its work. Our brother passed quickly from the vicissitudes of earth to the realities of eternity. He has left a wife and two daughters to deplore his dissolution. A solemn voice speaks to us all, "Be ye ready also." T. C.
