KNOOP, JACOB - On the 30th of June one of our old and respected citizens, Jacob Knoop, was buried.  He was born in Staunton, Miami county, Ohio, August 10th 1802, and died June 28th, 1867, being 64 years, 10 months and 18 days old at his death--nearly 65 years.  He grew to man's estate, lived and fulfilled his destiny, witnessed two generations come and go, and passed from labor to rest in the midst of the community where he was born.  He was much respected by his fellow citizens for his integrity, reliability and business capacity.  For many years he received at the hands of the people, various township and county offices of honor and trust.  He was Auditor for six years, if I mistake not, and county Treasurer for four.  During the later years of his life he was much afflicted; which, in a great measure, prevented his participating in the more active labors of citizenship, yet his voice and influence were always for the good of those in the midst of whom he lived, and for his country.  His last illness was long and painful, but was borne with fortitude and resignation.  His funeral was very largely attended and among those present were many whose heads were while as the almond tree's bloom, and who knew the deceased all along the journey of life.  Their presence, with others, showed their sympathy for the afflicted family, and their respect for the memory of their old friend and comrade.  Mr. Knoop was a good citizen, a pleasant and companionable gentleman, and a willing, prompt and hearty friend, ever ready to extend the hand of help to those in need.  Such is his record.
