POWERS, WM. (WILLIAM) S.
- At his residence in this city, at
4 o'clock, P.M. Wednesday 30th July, Mr. Wm. S. Powers, aged 28 years.
Death, in this instance, has indeed chosen a shining mark. His unering
shaft has cut down one among us, who, in addition to a wife, father, mother, and
sisters and brother to mourn his loss, has left a wide circle of friends and
acquaintances, mute with grief and astonishment, that one so beloved, and one so
full of life, could fall a victim to the fell destroyer, With such a
dispensation before us, every one is led to exclaiming "truly in the midst
of life we are in death". Just yesterday our friend William S. Powers
moved among us in the prime of life and the pride of manhood--to-day the
cold grave contains all that is earthly to him we so much loved.
"Grief silences the tongue,
And silence is the befitting language of sorrow."
