SMITH, ROYAL W. - In this Town, on Saturday morning 25th, inst.,
after an illness of ten days, Royal W. Smith, aged 27 years. Mr. Smith was
a native of Warwick, Mass. and the second son of Rev. Preserved Smith of that
place. He left his native State, and came to Ohio in July 1843; and has
been, most of the time, since then engaged in the Mercantile business in this
city. He was a gentleman highly esteemed by all who knew him, for firm
integrity and uprightness of character, as a business man; and beloved by his
more intimate associates, for his amiability of disposition and social virtues.
Possessed of more than ordinary intelligence, he was nevertheless, modest,
retiring and every difident; and was, consequently, most beloved by those who
possessed most, intimately his friendship and confidence. In his early and
unexpected departure, the business community have lost one of their most
exemplary and worthy men; his numerous friends, one they regarded with unusual
interest; his relative, a kind, dutiful and affectionate son, and brother; a
tender, faithful and loving husband and father. While we deeply mourn his
loss, and mingle our heart-felt sympathies, with his afflicted and heart
stricken widow, and friends, we would not murmur, nor sorrow as those without
hope;--but in language, full of pious resignation, and beautifully expressive,
uttered, from a heart full of chastened sorrow, at the hour of his departure--we
would say--"It is right, the Lord doeth all things well."
