SHAFFER, MRS. RACHEL - Died, on the 8th inst., Mrs. Rachel Shaffer, aged 45 years, 11 months, and 10 days, wife of Mr. Eckert Shaffer, at his residence near Troy, Miami Co., O. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in this place, much esteemed for her amiable character and consistent piety. During a lingering illness, that gradually wasted away her strength and life, even, by protracted suffering, she strikingly exemplified the patience of Christian hope. On the Sabbath evening previous to her death, feeling that she was near her end, as a last act in committing all her family to the care of God, she gave her infant child--the only one that had not received the seal of the covenant--to Him in baptism and then felt that she had entrusted all her earthly interests to the guardianship of Heaven. From this time she gradually grew more feeble till she peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. She has left a bereaved husband and an interesting family of children, eight in number, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends, deeply to mourn her loss. But they mourn not as those without hope.
