BARTON, MRS. HARRIET - On Sabbath morning last, of Ague,
Mrs. Harriet Barton, consort of M. H. Barton. The deceased had been much
afflicted with chills and fever during the summer and fall; but had been much
better for a few days. On Saturday afternoon she had an attack of the
chill, from which she did not recover. Mrs. Barton has resided with her
husband and family, for a number of years, in this town and neighborhood, and
was well known as a good and affectionate wife, a kind and indulgent mother, a
benevolent and accommodating neighbor, and a devoted and consistent christian.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church, and had a strong hold on the affections
of all the brethren and sisters in the church. She was remarkable prompt
in the discharge of all her christian duties. Where her health would
permit, she was a constant attendant upon public worship, and the prayer
meeting; and she was especially efficient in the benevolent operations of
the church, giving a constant aid to the Dorcas Society, where the sisters met
weekly to labor for the relief of the poor. She has gone to receive her
reward from that Heavenly Father, who does not look with indifference on one who
gives a cup of cold water to a disciple, in the name of a disciple.
