TELFORD, JAMES - Died on the 30th Sept., at his residence, Mr. James Telford, aged 55 years, 5 months and 1 day. Mr. Telford was a native of Kentucky, but came to this State about the year 1805, with his father; and since that time has been a resident of Miami county, with the exception of a few months which his father's family spent in Montgomery county, O. On Nov. 15th 1824, he married Mary, daughter of the late Holbert Murray. God greatly blessed this happy couple. He made them the joyful parents of seven happy children; and while he visited other families in the vicinity with death, he carefully guarded this one from all harm, till on the 5th of Oct., 1849, it pleased Him to take Hugh, the youngest of the happy family, to himself; then on Sept. 9th, 1850, God laid his hand on the beloved wife and mother, and took her to her long desired home; next, on June 16th, 1853, Howe, the fourth in the family, was summoned to receive his crown in glory; and now the father has gone to occupy that mansion prepared for him on high, and to join his departed friends in singing praises to God and the Lamb forever. Mr. Telford joined the Presbyterian Church at a very early age; and was chosen Ruling Elder Nov. 20th, 1837, which important office he continued to fill with acceptance till his death. He was among the first and foremost to say a good word, or to do a good work. He was noted for his integrity and fervent piety; he was a man of peace and had the good will of all who knew him. The Church to which he belonged will long remember his unceasing endeavors to promote its interests. The community in which he acted will long remember his earnest exhortations, both public and private, to a godly life. But his example, above all other things, will be remembered as a monument to the truth of the religion of Christ. Mr. Telford leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to lament his loss. May God grant each one of them to live and die as their departed and lamented friend. A. T.
