TELFORD, ASA
- On Tuesday, Oct. 21st, after a lingering
illness at the residence of his father, at Troy, Ohio, Mr. Asa Telford, in the
19th year of his age. Mr. Telford for the last year and a half had been
residing in our city, in the employ of Hanna & Sons, and in his business,
few young men were his equal.--Finding disease preying upon his system he
resolved to seek relief in a return to the endearments of a father's roof, where
he went a few weeks since, with the intention of returning when his health
should be restored. There was something of that mildness and affability in
his nature that cause friends to cluster around him, and, though a stranger, to
give a home, a welcome home, in affection. For this he was grateful and
always reciprocated their kindness. Just entering on the voyage of life,
the sea was calm, serene as summer's eve, he could see no fault in the world,
nor enemies to disturb the (line through the filmstrip) the enjoyment of its
confidence, and in the contemplation of its beauties, and as he thus glided
along, his star of hope shone brighter and brighter until it mingled in
brightness in the resplendency of eternal day. How truly the Poet said,
"The good die first and those whose
Hearts are dry as summer's sand live on."
Though not a professor of religion, to his friends there is left
this consoling reflection, that he died not as those "who die without a
hope."--Fort Wayne (Ia.) Times.
