DUNCAN, SERENA HYRE - Ludlow
Falls--Serena Hyre Duncan died Dec. 1st at her home east of town. Death
resulted from inflammation of the kidneys. She was ill three weeks.
She was born at Trotwood, Montgomery county, March 10, 1842, and was a daughter
of Absolom and Elizabeth Hess Hyre. She was married Oct. 6, 1859 to Eli
Duncan. She was the mother of seven children, six of whom together with
her husband survive her. They are Mrs. J. F. Ireland of West Milton, Mrs.
Samuel W. Wray of Fredericktown, Mrs. J. A. Campbell of Dayton, Mrs. F. J. Vore,
Fred J. and Donley Duncan of Ludlow Falls. All were present at the
funeral. One daughter, Clara, preceded her in death. She also leaves
to mourn her loss a sister, Mrs. Mort Seymore of Illinois, a half-sister, a
half-brother, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. At the age of
16 years she united with the Fouts Christian church during the pastorate of
Elder Wm. Jay and she was ever a loyal member. She was a woman who won the
love and respect of all who knew her. Her disposition was sunny and she
bore her affliction very patiently. About 8 years ago she suffered a
stroke of paralysis which caused a decline in health. Although her
immediate family was aware that she was failing rapidly her death occurred
rather unexpectedly. The funeral was held in the Christian church here
Sunday Dec. 4 and was conducted by Rev. Enos Pemberton. The music was
furnished by a choir of mixed voices from both churches. The floral tributes
were many and beautiful. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
The family has the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their sad
bereavement.
