C. Pence
Robert
C. Pence, 85, of Piqua, formerly of Sidney, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Monday,
Sept. 9, 2002 in Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home.
He was born on March 12, 1917 in Shelby County, the son of the late
Earl and Martha (Stockstill) Pence. Robert
was a 1923 (wrong date in paper) graduate of Sidney High School and served in
the United States Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific area.
He later became a member of USMC Reserves.
On Jan. 4, 1963 he married Florence (Cron) Wintrow, and she survives.
Robert was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Piqua, the Lena
Masonic Lodge No. 217, Sidney, Chapter No. 130 Royal Arch Masons, Ancient
Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 54 of
Port Jefferson, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 04874, Piqua.
Robert retired as a Miami County employee.
In addition to his wife Florence, he is survived by one daughter, Barbara
Hay of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, William “Bill” Pence of Sidney, Bruce
Pence of Minster; a step-son, Leroy Wintrow, Jr. of Covington; a stepdaughter,
Freda Creager of Piqua; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation
will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Suber Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St.,
Fletcher. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. by Lena Masonic Lodge No. 217.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Frank Sapp of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Piqua,
presiding. Burial will be in
Fletcher Cemetery. Military services
will be provided at the cemetery by VFW Post of No. 04874 of Piqua. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Legion Ambulance Fund, 301 W. Water
St., Piqua, Ohio 45356 or the charity of your choice.
