BROTHERTON, MRS. MARY - Mrs. Mary Brotherton, aged 89 years and one month, died at her home in Piqua last Friday.  The funeral was held from the home Sunday afternoon and was conducted by the Rev. F. B. Neel of the Piqua Baptist church.  Mrs. Brotherton was a daughter of Caleb and Susan Jones and was born April 19, 1822, on a farm three miles east of Piqua.  In 1840 she married William Darnold who died ten years later.  Of three children born to them Volney died in infancy, Mrs. Angeline Stilwell passed away two years ago and William is now living in Bremerton, Wash.  In 1852 she married Jasper Brotherton who died in 1886.  To this union four children were born, Joseph B. of Muskogee, Okla., Susan and Mrs. S. Rebecca Ludlow of Piqua and Charles C. who died in early manhood.  Mrs. Brotherton was a woman of unusual strength of character yet was a devoted mother and home maker.  Her death is the close of a well spent career.
