Obituary

Catherine Shellenberger, daughter of Jacob and Hannah Shellenberger, was born in Juniata County, Pa., Oct. 2, 1826.  She was the eldest of a family of eight children, four of whom are still living, Joseph of Ransom, Kans., Ephriam of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Martha McConnel, of Dakota, Ill.  She was married to Jacob Shellenberger, January 1st, 1854.  Leaving the rugged hills of Pennsylvania for Ohio with her husband to become a mother to his dear children, David, William, Rose, James, and Emma.  Soon after coming to this country she with her husband united with the Church of the Brethren.  She was the mother of eight children, four of whom preceded her to the spirit world, Ida, who is married to Mr. H. M. Nill and Ollie, who so tenderly cared for their mother, reside in Covington, Eva is married to Elder George N. Falkenstein, of Elizabethtown, Pa..  Her husband, who was an invalid for several years, was cared for with untiring devotion until the end which came in 1872.  With all the pressing duties of wife and motherhood she took pleasure in hospitalities and Christian work.  This continued even until her tottering feet and tired hands because (sic) too feeble to do her bidding.  The disposition of Sister Shellenberger has always been of the quiet, sweet, unobtrusive kind which made her many friends.  In her unselfish devotion to others, her patient endurance of suffering and trial, her meek and lowly spirit, we believe she imitated the life of her Master, and we know that large are the mansions in our Father's house for such as trust him and give their lives in his keeping.  On last Monday morning, almost 86 years of age, she began her day in the Glorious Heaven prepared for all God's children.  The family has lost a devoted and affectionate mother and companion; the church a faithful and loyal woman of God; the community a kind and unselfish neighbor and citizen.
