BLACKMAN, HURLBERT - Obituary - Hurlbert Blackman was born at Hanover, Luzerne county, Pennsylvania in the year A. D. 1794. At the age of twenty-three, he settled in Troy, Miami county, Ohio, where he passed the remainder of his life. In his youthful days he was an active, energetic man and the same characteristic accompanied him through old age. As one of Troy's earliest citizens, he lived to see it rise from a few dwellings to a prosperous and flourishing town. He died on the 17th day of October 1872, at the age of seventy-eight years. He was a devoted Christian, and for forty years had been an acceptable member of the Presbyterian church. For fifteen years he served as an elder, but at the time of the Union of the two branches of the church, he resigned, and held no official position afterwards. When death approached, he met it with calmness and fortitude. He felt that he had lived his full time, was prepared for the great change, and fell asleep resting upon the arms of his Savior. A devoted wife and two children survive him. Mary, his younger daughter, died on the same day in the far west, a few hours subsequent to her father. W. D. H.
