PHIPPS, ALICE - Alice Phipps, 90 of Dayton, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 at Friendship Village.  She was preceded in death by her parents LeRoy and Edna (Miller) Harshbarger, brothers Ralph and Harold Harshbarger, sister Lucille Lutz.  She is survived by her loving husband Willard Phipps, sons and daughter-in-law Gary & June Phipps of Washington Court House, David Phipps of Englewood, daughter and son-in-law Wilda & Bob Martindale of Greenville, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren.  Born and raised in Potsdam, she was a 1934 graduate of Milton-Union HS.  Wed to Willard Phipps in August of 1940, they settled on a farm near Pleasant Hill in 1944.  There she raised their children, cared for foster children, and worked at the Berry School of Horsemanship.  She was an active member of the Potsdam Missionary Church teaching children, assisting with missionary support and even volunteered at the denominational headquarters.  In 1998 she and Willard moved to Friendship Village Retirement Community where she continued her lifestyle of service by welcoming new residents and visiting those who needed encouragement.  Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, at The Hale-Sarver Funeral Home, West Milton.  Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3131 South Dixie Drive, Suite 221, Dayton OH 45439.
