DEATH
CALLS JOHN W. YENNEY
Well
Known Piqua Man Dies in Ashland, N. C. -- Long Ill.
John
W. Yenney, for many years a leading citizen of this city, died at Ashville, N.
C., about eight o’clock, this morning, of tuberculosis after an illness of
long duration. Last May, Mr. Yenney
accompanied by his wife and daughter Dorothy went to Ashville where it was hoped
Mr. Yenney would recover this health. Up
to three weeks ago he seemed to be gaining, but then a change came, and he grew
steadily worse until the end. Only
last week his brother, Frank Yenney, went to Ashville to see Mr. Yenney, taking
two of the children with him. Word
was received in Piqua, yesterday, of Mr. Yenney being very ill, and Mr. Frank
Yenney and Mr. Bernard Groven had intended to go south this afternoon.
The sad news of Mr. Yenney’s death changed their plans. John W. Yenney
was born on a farm in Miami county near Piqua, in January, 1868 and coming to
the city when a young man engaged in the grocery business, being a member of the
firm of Vallery & Yenney until last summer when he sold his interest and
went south for his health. He was
married to Miss Minnie Groven, February 25th, 1903.
He is survived by his wife and four children Arthur, Dorothy, Forrest,
and Margaret, also by three sisters, and two brothers, Mrs. Emma Kohler, Mrs.
Will Koppf, Miss Hattie Yenney, Mr. Frank Yenney, all of Piqua and Mr. Frederick
Yenney, who lives on a farm near the city. The deceased was a life long member
of the Presbyterian church, a man of sterling honesty, an active and useful
citizen of this city, a loving husband and a kindly and affectionate father.
He held the respect and esteem of all who know him.
The remains will be brought to Piqua Wednesday afternoon.
Notice of funeral hereafter.

SIMPLE
SERVICES WERE HELD TODAY
Body of the Late John W. Yenney Laid to Rest at Forest Hill Cemetery. Of the simplest and most impressive character was the funeral service of the late John W. Yenney which were held at the Presbyterian church this afternoon. There was no music, only the reading of the scripture, a prayer and a short address by the Rev. Dr. John Montgomery. Previous to starting for the church a short service was held at the home of the bereaved family after which the casket was carried to the waiting hearse by Messrs. L. E. Chamberlin, William B. Dubo’s, August S. Clouse, Paul Loeffler, William H. Koester, and Louis Neth. After the services at the church the sad journey was resumed and the body placed at rest in Forest Hill cemetery. The large gathering of sorrowing friends and relatives at the service the profusion of beautiful floral tributes sent from far and near spoke of the deceased and the sorrow that his death had caused in many hearts.
