KUNKLE, ELMER - Phoneton--Last Friday afternoon Elmer Kunkle, a young farmer who resided on Shull's avenue, a road leading from the Troy and Dayton pike to the Brandt and Dayton pike, one and one-half miles south of Phoneton, was helping his near neighbor, Paul Barr, haul in hay for his brother, I. N. Barr, whose land adjoins Phoneton on the south. In driving into the barn with a high load, Kunkle in some manner, not exactly known, was pierced in the abdomen, by his fork handle which inflicted a wound 12 inches deep. He was carried into the home of Newton Barr, two physicians were hastily summoned and did all in their power to save his life but he died in great agony at 2:30 Saturday morning. He as a young man of exemplary habits and was every one's friend. He had but recently bought a small farm, built a new house and was just fixed to live and his tragic death casts a gloom over his entire neighborhood. A vast throng of neighbors and friends attended the last sad rites Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Reformed church here. Interment in the new cemetery.
