SHERWOOD, DAVID - Hetzlers
Corner--David Sherwood died at his home in Sidney Sunday, May 22, of lung
trouble. He had been ill two months. He was born November 30, 1836,
in Green township, Shelby county, about three miles north of Fletcher and
was the son of Peter and Clarima Sherwood. March 10, 1859, he was united
in marriage with Miss Mary Jane Grey. He is survived by his wife, two
sons, six grandchildren, one brother, William Sherwood of Fletcher, and two
sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Hetzler and Mrs. Leah Barr of this corner. The
funeral services were held Tuesday from the Springcreek Baptist church and were
conducted by the Rev. Alby Kite. Interment in Fletcher cemetery. Mr.
Sherwood followed the occupation of farming and occasionally did some
auctioneering He lived in the township, where he was born all his life or
rather until he moved to Sidney four years ago. He was a member of the
Lena Baptist church. When a young man he taught a few terms of old time
singing school and for many years led the singing in public gatherings,
funerals, etc., in this neighborhood. A short service was held in the home
before bringing the remains here and one reason for having the funeral here was
that his old time associates might attend and pay the last sad rites to one who
once mingled with them as a relative, neighbor and friend.
