Miami Union

IDDINGS, A. J. - A. J. Iddings, a leading Union township citizen and president of the Citizens bank of West Milton, suffered a stroke of apoplexy during the night Saturday night and was found dead in his bed early Sunday morning at his home just north of Ludlow Falls.  His wife had been caring for her mother, Mrs. Lavina Haskett, who is quite feeble being in her 96th year, and did not discover Mr. Idding's death until several hours after it took place.  He had been suffering from neuralgia for several days but was up and around and did his feeding Saturday evening.  Mr. Iddings was born in Newton township August 16 1842, and was the son of Benjamin and Barbara (Hill) Iddings being one of a family of ten children.  He was ever an active and industrious man and grew to be one of the wealthy citizens of Union township.  He owned 440 acres of land and was the organizer and president of the West Milton Citizens state bank.  He was a veteran of the Civil war having enlisted in 1864 in Co. H 147th O. V. I.  He was united in marriage with Miss Melinda Haskett, who lived west of Milton, and one son, Esty, survives with the wife to mourn his departure.  The deceased is also survived by three brothers, James, a resident of Manitoba, Jasper of Piqua and Henry of near Ludlow Falls, a half brother Myron, who resides on the old home place.  Four sisters remain to mourn their loss, namely, Mrs. Mary Jay and Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks of West Milton, Mrs. Belle Coppock of Kansas and Mrs. Delina McCormick of Long Beach, California.  He was a member of the Ludlow Falls Christian church where the funeral was held Wednesday forenoon the service being conducted by Rev. O. P. Furnas.  Interment was made in Old Union cemetery.
