RONALD FRANK KING

Ronald Frank King, 79, of West Milton, OH, seasonal resident of Ft. Myers, FL, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL, after a diagnosis of Non Hopkins Lymphoma and a courageous battle with liver cancer.  Born August 28, 1931, in Cleveland, OH, to Burdette Marshall King and Nola Fern (Carson) who both preceded his death.  His family moved to Dayton, OH, before settling in Laura, OH, where he attended Milton-Union schools, graduating in the class of 1951.  He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and sailed aboard aircraft carriers as an aviation metal smith for 4 years aboard the USS Roosevelt and USS Coral Sea.

Upon his return from the service, he married Sherynne Lee (Green) on January 12, 1957, and they spent 54 wonderful years together.  Survived by their four sons, Ronald Gregory (Cyndi) of Dayton, OH, Kevin Scott (Joyce) of West Milton, OH, Kurtis Lee (Lisa) of N. Ft. Myers, FL and Jeffrey Burdette of Ft. Myers, FL.  He also is survived by five grandchildren: Evan, Morgan, Holly, Brian, and Claire.  Also, a brother James J. King (Patti) and son Scott, and his sister Shirley (Bob) King Williams and their children Bruce, Brad and Leigh.

Ron retired from General Motors, Delco-Moraine brake division of Dayton, OH, in 1992.  He was an engineering lab technician.  Ron was a Golden Glove boxer and participated in the other sports in his youth.  Ron was a professional genealogist, an historian, and a member of the Miami County and the Miami Valley Genealogical Society where he was the editor of their newspaper, The GAB.  He was the umpire in chief of Greater Dayton Umpire Assoc. and is an inductee to the Dayton Amateur Softball Hall of Fame in recognition of his having coached women's slow pitch softball.  Ron was a proud member of the Lions Club serving as Club President, Zone Chairman and District membership chairman as well as other duties.  He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church where he became a Stephen minister and also attended Emmaus.  He was also a modest member of Mensa.  Ron was an adventurous man who loved to travel and enjoyed outdoors as much as being in a library doing research.  He was of quick wit and high morals, loved his family, and never met a stranger.  He loved to whistle as well as sing, especially to his friends over the phone on their birthday.  Ron will be sadly missed and the world is a better place for having known him.

Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church 2466 First St., Ft. Myers FL on Sunday February 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM and at Hoffman United Methodist Church 201 S. Main St., West Milton, OH, at 2:00 PM on May 22, 2011.  Donations in Lieu of flowers may be made in his name to HOPE HOSPICE 9470 HealthPark Circle Ft. Myers, FL 33908 or to Milton-Union Scholarship Fund.
