ASHER, RUBY I. (GIBBONY) - Piqua - Ruby I. (Gibbony) Asher, age 89, of Piqua, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home, Piqua. She was born in Richmond, Va., on Oct. 29, 1920, to the late Jesse L. and Mabel (Kessler) Gibbony. In June of 1941, she married Arthur R. Asher, Sr., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1975. Ruby is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, James and Ruth Ann Asher of Piqua, and Arthur R. "Pete" Asher, Jr. and Sheri Gish of Lakeview, Ohio; four sisters, Wilma Abshire of West Milton, Dessie Anthony, Rose Gibbony and Mary and Joe Solano, all of Avondale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jessica Wooten, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Jeremy Asher of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Beverly and Kimberly Asher of Dallas, Texas, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Dale Michael Asher; two brothers and three sisters. Ruby was a 1941 graduate of Newton High School. She was an Army Wife in which her husband Arthur R. served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. She was a loving homemaker, babysitter and caregiver for most of her life. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, with her son, the Rev. James Asher, officiating.
