DANKWORTH, JOHN R., JR. - Troy - John R. Dankworth, Jr., 84, of Troy, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Troy, to the late John R. and Elizabeth J. (Zicht) Dankworth, Sr. John was a lifelong resident of Troy. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Edward L.; two sisters, Edna K. and Daisy M.; and one grandson, Theodore "Ted" Justice. John is survived by his best friend "Butch", his dog; one daughter, Sharon A. Justice (Fred) of Piqua; three sons, Gary L. Dankworth. Sr. (Doris) of Troy, Jerry L. Dankworth, Sr. (Barbara) of West Milton and Terry G. Dankworth, Sr. (Loretta) of Fletcher; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Marvin J. Dankworth (Betty) of Greenville; and one sister, Marlene K. Maddox (Larry) of Richmond, Ind. John is also survived by the mother of his children, Dorothy Dankworth of Troy. John was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Troy Gospel Tabernacle. John retired as a self-employed auto mechanic and construction worker. There will be a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Steve Spoon officiating. The visitation will take place from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, with a military service at the graveside by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
